Do you know if your teenager takes unnecessary risks in their car, or your car? Lots of young people take risks because they feel they have the ‘invincible bug’, yet we all know they’re not. Every year almost 1200 young drivers die on the road, don’t let your son or daughter be one of them. |
Do you pay?
You may have contributed to their driving lessons and helped them to pass their test…Do you really want to pay for it over again? If you pay the insurance or let them go third party on your car you have the responsibility to take the ‘death tool’ away from them until you know they drive responsibly.
Do your kids know they can say NO?
When you’re not around do you know who your teenager drives around with, what they are doing and where they are going? The passengers may be intoxicated, not wearing their seatbelt or distracting the driver- your daughter or son needs to know they have the right to say; ‘belt up or get out!’ or even NO you are not getting in! Do they know this?
Would you want your child getting into a car with someone who has had a drink or a splif, would you get in a car if the driver had taken something…don’t allow your teenager to let other parent’s children get in the car with your son or daughter unless you can fully say you know they are a responsible driver.
Teach them the consequences of their actions…don’t let other teenagers get in the car with your son or daughter if they are not in control.
Your kids, your responsibility...step in…take action
